We live in a world where having an education is sort of a big deal. Us as men and women who do not have a college education are often over looked at jobs where you need one.
My husband is a nurse, but does not have his BSN and is often over looked at all jobs he apply for. We have been financially struggling for almost 4 years now as he can only get paid so high without an BSN. There are so many things we want to do for our two boys. Places we want to take them, but sadly we are not able to on the salary he makes. So what is one couple to do? If we go back to college and get an degree it would be 3 to 4 years of living paycheck to paycheck again. What would you do if you where placed in this situation? Would you go back to college, or would you just live the way you where for the rest of your life?
My husband Stephen and I prayed long and hard about what to do. Happily I am able to tell you that he is going back to college full time in the fall. When one door closes one opens is a saying you often here. In our case 50 door at least where shut in our faces until we accepted the answer that was given to us. In August we are moving to Rexburg Idaho, to become full time college students in our 30’s. We know that things will be tough, that money will be tight. We also know that with getting an education we are not only helping our family. But also showing both boys it doesn’t matter your age to go back to college.
Oh there are so many positive things about going back to college. But there are also so many unanswered questions as well. Will we be able to provide for the whole family? How will the boys like a colder place? Will we be able to ever go on a vacation again? All these things are a yes or no. One thing is for sure we are making the first step to having financial freedoms we wouldn’t have without that college degree.
So I pose this question on you the readers what would you do? Would you pack up your family and go back to college, or would you just make ends meet? I do not think there is a right or wrong answer, but I do think that whatever your answer is it needs to be done as a family. College is not an win for everyone, but in the case of the O’Dair’s it is our answer.
